Game 1 - Cray (6-0)
Cray were to be Barming’s first opponents, who
would show us what sort of standard could be achieved at this
age. The goals were flying in from the first whistle, unfortunately
they were all in Barming’s net! Lets give our team credit though,
they kept their heads up and were determined not to give up. We
desperately wanted a goal, but to no avail. Final score 6-0.
Game 2 - Vinters Park (2-0)_
This was a game against a local team from Maidstone,
and was to be a hard fought battle with tackles flying and both
teams passing the ball (not always in the right direction!) Vinters
were to be victorious with two goals, but the improvement from
our side was promising.
Game 3 - Teviot (2-0)
Barming were beginning to get into their stride
by the third game, with players from both teams working hard.
Unfortunately we could not stop conceding goals, although both
goal keepers were trying hard. It was to be another 2-0 defeat,
but the players did not seem to mind much, and were enjoying the
occasion.
Game 4 - Larkfield (0-1)
This was the game I had been looking forward to
the most. It was a local derby against Larkfield who are traditionally
a strong club. This was to be our best performance with all the
team working hard and putting together some good passes. It was
a break from the back, that enabled Travis Eden to fire home our
first goal in a competitive match. The team went wild, as to did
all of our supporters that had made the trip to South London.
Our first win, 0-1 - Hooray!
Game 5 - Bruin (1-1)
Everyone was now on a high after our first win,
and wanted another taste of victory - we were to be so close.
Bruin were our final opponents, a good team that had had some
good results. This was to be a closely fought game, going from
end to end. It was a mix-up from the kick off by Bruin, which
enabled Luke Evans to capitalise on their mistake, and he powered
through to score the first goal. The crowd went wild with Barming’s
second goal in two games, the team were on a roll. Bruin got a
throw in close to the edge of Barming’s area, and in the last
minute they got their equaliser. By right, the goal should have
been disallowed as you cannot score direct from a throw, but the
ref gave the goal. To Barming’s credit, we did not make a fuss
and the game finished 1-1.
All the games were played in good spirit, and
sportsmanship was in abundance. The whole team had done the club
proud.
After the final whistles, all the teams were spoken
to by Damien Matthews, Head of Youth Development at Chelsea Football
Club, about the way in which all the teams had performed and he
was delighted how the tournament had gone. Damien then gave out
certificates to all the team managers to present to their players.
We found a quiet corner and had a small presentation, where the
children received their certificates. I feel the children were
as pleased as Steven Gerrard was when he lifted the FA Cup for
Liverpool. Everybody enjoyed the experience, especially myself,
Jay and Adrian, who could have not asked much more from all the
team.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank
everyone for their support, not just for the day, but also for
our first year at Barming FC. A huge thank you must also go to
Paul Flisher, Chairman of Barming FC, for finding the time to
come and watch the youngest of Barming’s teams in their first
outing under the Barming Flag.
Enjoy the summer break, and I look forward to
our first training session on 9th September at South Street.
Thank you.
Richard - Under 6’s Manager
