There "SNOW" stopping Barming Vets

Yesterday 3rd January saw Barming Vets take on Ditton Vets in a friendly. The snow as we left Barming was laying but the pitch at Ditton Community Centre seemed to miss it so the game went ahead in freezing conditions. Barming soon warmed up though when Ronnie Bates put us in front with a thunderous goal in just 30 seconds flat, followed with another on 8 mins. Simon Kieffer joined in by scoring 2 more for Barming in the first half. Thankfully Mark Archer didn’t have too much to contend with in goal other than skating on the goal line as defenders Colin, Steve, Nick and Mick/Paul cleared up any loose balls. He did make one of his outstanding acrobatic saves towards the end of the match. Both Karl and Martin got onto the scoring sheet with 2 cracking goals and with Richard, Rab, Gary, Ian and Warren staying strong in the midfield the scorline finished 6 – 0. A fantastic clean sheet for the Barming Vets. This is the Vets 3rd game and with each game the guys are becoming more confident with the players around them. The first Vets match took us to Folkestone where the guys played a very well established team called Old Pharosians. We were gracious in defeat and learnt from our mistakes. So when we came to play Kings Hill Vets we proved to be a stronger side. We went 2-0 down early on but some resilient play saw Barming come back strong to finish the game with a fine 4-3 victory. We have many new faces in our squad and it’s so good to have strength in depth however it provides the age-old problem when deciding on the starting eleven!!! The Vets have been so fortunate to gain sponsorship from Donnelly Contract Ltd so the Vets will be sporting their new shirts (ones that will actually fit them!!!!) very soon. We thank them very much for supporting Barming Youth F.C.
